James Dorrance turned a heads-up chip lead into a Main Event title in the record-breaking 1,717-player field at Horseshoe Hammond Monday night. The victory awarded Dorrance $418,526, a WSOP Circuit gold ring and a berth in the National Championship.

Dorrance began the third and final day of play second of 15 players remaing and parlayed that into the final table chip lead. He outlasted Casino Champion contender Michael Oshana (9th) and 13-time WSOP-related casher Kevin Eyster (6th).

The victory marks Dorrance's first time to cash in a WSOP event and sends the 27-year-old Penn State grad home with the largest payday ever awarded in a $1,675 WSOP Circuit Main Event.

The field surpassed the previous Main Event attendance record (set in Hammond in 2011) by 102 players and dolled out a piece of the $2,575,500 prize pool to the top 189 finishers.

Notables to join Dorrance in the money include Nachman Berlin (142nd), Gillian Epp (136th), Kyle Julius (123rd), gold bracelet winner Chris Bell (120nd), Kevin McColgan (96th), Douglas Carli (75th) and gold bracelet winners Owais Ahmed (30th) and Aaron Steury (20th).

Despite this stacked field, much of the hoopla during the late stages of play surrounded Diane Dines. Dines is an Indiana resident and one of almost 100 players who earned their way into the Main Event via on-site promotions at the Horseshoe.

Dines was playing $1/$2 no-limit when her table was randomly selected for a high-card promotion. She won the seat and turned it into a six-figure score, finishing third for $193,832.

The Main Event boasted a $2 million guarantee -- a first-time event for the WSOP Circuit. Its conclusion wraps the 2013-2014 WSOP Circuit at Horseshoe Hammond, but Circuit action is already up and running at River Rock outside of Vancouver, BC, CA and at Harvey's Lake Tahoe in Nevada.

More information on those stops is available on their events pages.

"How much does he have there?" Dorrance says facing the raise. "I'm all-in."

Maniaci looks disgusted as he gives his hole cards one more once-over and sends them to the muck.

No sooner do Maniaci's cards hit the muck does Dorrance table    for a queen-high bluff.

"Obviously I didn't have anything either," Maniaci says.
