Up Against the Clock, Mike Dentale Almost Makes a Good Call
On the river, with about 30,000 in the middle and a completed board of , Mike Dentale (pictured) checks from middle position and the player in the hijack bets 10,000. Dentale goes into the tank for several minutes before speaking up.
"Do you really have me beat?" asks Dentale.
"Do you want me to call the clock to make it easier on you?" asks another player at the table.
"Whatever you want to do," says Dentale.
The other player at the table calls the clock and the staff comes over and counts down his 30 seconds. Dentale can't make a decision in the allotted amount of time and his hand is dead. The player in the hijack shows , giving him ace-high, and Dentale is visibly upset at being shown an inferior hand.
"I was two seconds away from calling," says Dentale. "When I know, I know."
"Did you fold three jacks?" asks the player who called the clock.
"I would've snap-called with three jacks," says Dentale. "I had pocket fives."
