Kevin Rund Wins Six-Max Event at Hard Rock Tulsa

Kevin Rund

Tulsa, Okla. (23 March 2017) — The latest World Series of Poker Circuit ring winner is Kevin Rund. Rund won Event #7: $365 No-Limit Hold’em Six-Handed at the Hard Rock Tulsa on Thursday, earning $23,500 for the victory.

Rund, a 53-year old father of two, started the final day third in chips, and slowly worked his way up the leaderboard. “My strategy right off the bat was just to work my way up the pay scale,” he said. “I think I was third in chips, but I didn’t want to do anything stupid early. Because I have a history of doing that.”

His strategy was successful, and he avoided repeating mistakes he’s made in the past. Soon he found himself heads up against Cherie Baber with roughly a 2-1 chip advantage. “I was waiting for the right spot,” he recalled. “On the last hand, I had Ace-Seven. I had middle pair on the board. I couldn’t believe she went all in as soon as that ace hit on the turn and gave me two pair. She’s sitting on Ace-Nine, so I just had to fade a nine on the river and got lucky. I feel very fortunate.”

Rund, who owns a pool building company in Oklahoma City, said he plans to celebrate by calling his two daughters. After, he said, he’s getting ready to go back to work. “I’m not going to quit my day job.”
