William Kassouf Talks Through a Hand
William Kassouf
William Kassouf opens to 265,000 from under the gun, sparking a one-sided conversation that will continue throughout the hand. Action folds to Kakwan Lau in the big blind, and he's the recipient of the bulk of the chatter.
"The Vietnamese sensation," Kassouf begins. "Where are you from?" Lau doesn't answer initially, so Kassouf tries again. "Where are you from?"
"From here," Lau answers.
"Yeah, but where are you from originally? Where are your parents from?"
"Vietnam."
"I was right!" Kassouf says. "The Vietnamese sensation. You're only in for one-twenty. No shame in passing." Lau calls. "That's a good call," Kassouf compliments him. "Unlucky on the flop, though."
The flop is , and Lau checks. "Check to induce, or check because you missed?" Kassouf asks. "Give him a free card. Let him catch up." He checks behind.
The turn is the , and Lau checks again. "Ah, setting the trap, right?" Kassouf is still narrating his opponent's actions. "I'll set the trap back. Let him bluff on the river." He checks behind again.
The river is the , and Lau checks for a third time. "If you don't want it, I'm going to have to have it," Kassouf says. He discusses the appropriate sizing aloud, then settles on a number. "Yeah, just a small bet," he says, sliding out about 350,000. Lau calls instantly.
"You got it," Kassouf says, mucking his two cards and pushing the chips toward the middle of the table. "Nice call. Next hand. Let's go."
Kassouf wins the war of words, but Lau takes the pot without needing to show.
