Jason Mercier Eliminated by Justin Bonomo
Pot-Limit Omaha
Daniel Alaei opens the cutoff to 42,000, Justin Bonomo calls from the small blind, and Jason Mercier (pictured) defends his big blind to create three-way action.
The flop is . All three players check, and the turn is the . Bonomo leads for 100,000 into a pot of 126,000. Mercier pots for 426,000, Alaei folds, and Bonomo calls. Mercier has 285,000 chips left in front of him as the river brings the . Bonomo announces, "Pot."
Mercier slams a stack of chips together and shoots out of his chair. "Fuck!" He spends the next nine minutes considering the decision for his tournament life, while most of the remaining field heads off for break. One of those who sticks behind to watch is the tournament's short stack, Georgios Sotiropoulos.
Mercier apologizes to Bonomo twice over the course of his time in the tank. At one point, he peeks under the PLO plaque to see what game is coming next. A bit later, he cranes his neck around the room, eying up the other short stacks as he stands behind his chair. Eventually, he calls to put himself at risk.
Bonomo shows for the nuts. Mercier spins his inferior onto the felt, and his set of queens is not enough to keep him alive. He's eliminated in 16th place, bringing the field onto the direct money bubble.
