The Dynamic Duo It took nine days of play, 103 days of anticipation, and nearly 19 hours of final table action to get down to the final two players in the 2012 WSOP Main Event: Greg Merson and Jesse Sylvia. Hug It Out After nearly 250 hands of three-handed action, Jake Balsiger's run of luck in the 2012 WSOP Main Event finally ran out of steam. He offers competitor Greg Merson a parting hug before leaving the stage to collect his $3,799,073 payday. The Longest WSOP Main Event in History At about 4:00 am local time, hand #365 was dealt at the WSOP Main Event Final Table, making it the longest Main Event in history. Despite having played ten hours of poker, the final three show no signs of wavering. ...Poker Is an Emotional Game Sylvia and his friends celebrate his lucky double up. The Sylvia crowd was so rowdy in their cheers and celebrations that the entire set shook as they stomped and clapped. ...To the Highest of Highs... The final card is a miraculous one, as it gives Sylvia a winning straight and a massive double up to give Sylvia the chip lead and new life in the biggest tournament of the year. From the Lowest Lows... Jesse Sylvia watches his Main Event bracelet hopes slipping away after he gets it all-in holding A-K to Greg Merson's pocket kings. There is still one card to come though... Greg's Mersonaries Not only did Greg Merson bring the chip lead and a wealth of experience with him to tonight's Main Event finale, he also brought a contingent of ardent supporters who've had his back through every call, raise and fold tonight. Oops! Any poker player has to admit that they have put a bad beat on someone at one point or another. Jake Balsiger is well aware he got lucky to turn a 10 when he was holding A-10 to Jesse Sylvia's A-Q. That's poker as they say. Team Balsiger Jake Balsiger has been the short stack among the final three for most of the evening but has done well so far to stay in contention. Aiding Balsiger tonight is a rail of friends and family who are keeping up the enthusiasm even as the midnight hour approaches. Happy Halloween!
