The Official WSOP Photo BlogSelect Year:
The Last Time Around? In a recent article, the legendary Doyle Brunson stated that this could be his last ever WSOP due to the hours required for him to play. Despite that, Brunson is again making a deep run in the $50,000 Poker Players Championship. The Only One He Wears Phil Hellmuth has an above average stack in the $50,000 Poker Players Championship and is going for bracelet number 13. However, the only bracelet that Hellmuth ever sports during events is his 1989 WSOP Main Event gold bracelet. Taking It All In 2009 WSOP Player of the Year Jeff Lisandro is alone in his thoughts, but surrounded by players and railbirds on Day 2 of the $50,000 Poker Players Championship. The $50,000 Rail One thing the $50,000 Poker Player's Championship always attracts outside of the great players is huge rails. Despite the fact it is late into Day 2, a large fan rail has completely engulfed the field. Bad River Neil Channing winces as the river card is dealt at the $1,500 No-Limit Hold 'em final table. Channing is heads-up with Henry Lu and had Lu all in. However, Lu had the best of it unless Channing could spike a club on the river for a flush. Obviously, that did not happen. Antonius is in the Building We have a Patrik Antonius sighting. He is on to Day 2 of the $50,000 Poker Players Championship. It is a family affair at the Rio today too, as Antonius's wife, Maya, is still alive and in the money on Day 2 of the $1,000 No-Limit Hold 'em event just across the Amazon Room. No Easy Spots Phil Ivey (right) looks on as Brian Rast (left) plays a pot on Day 2 of the $50,000 Poker Players Championship against Daniel Negreanu. Rast is the defending champion in this event. Chip Off the Old Block On the same day that the $50,000 Poker Players Championship gets underway, Zachary Clark makes a run in the $1,500 No-Limit Hold'em event. Clark has a unique connection to the $50,000 event, as his uncle, the late Chip Reese, won the first-ever $50,000 event back in 2006. Each year, the winner of the Poker Players Champion gets his name engraved on the Chip Reese Memorial Trophy. Clark may not be up for the trophy, but he is chip leader going into Day 3 of the $1,500 No-Limit Hold'em event and has a chance to pick up a gold bracelet just like his uncle. Two for the Twenty-Two Year Old Oleksii Kovalchuk is now two for two when it comes to years at the WSOP and gold bracelets. The Ukrainian up and comer is now the only two-time bracelet winner from his home country. What makes the feat all the more impressive is that he won the $2,500 Omaha Hi-Low/Stud Hi-Low event, a game he barely knew how to play when he registered three days ago. The Players Championship Takes its Toll During the first break of the $50,000 Poker Players Championship, Gus Hansen takes a nap on the floor of the Amazon Room. There are 1400 entries in the photo blog.
