Lukas Willems - WSOP.com Reporter/Contributor
Lukas Willems is a reporter and contributor for WSOP.com. He has been with the site since 2010.
He graduated from UW-Green Bay cum laude with a degree in Communication and Public Relations.
Upon graduation, Willems joined the WSOP.com staff full time covering WSOP Circuit events throughout the country.
His poker travels have taken him to such places as Cannes, France and Vancouver, British Columbia as well as throughout the United States, where he has contributed news stories and profiles of many poker players and events on the tournament poker circuit.
Save for the South of France, Willems says his favorite WSOP stop thus far has been Choctaw Casino Resort located about 70 miles north of Dallas/Fort Worth in Durant, OK. He loved the food, culture and laid-back lifestyle of the people in the Dallas area.
Prior to his work with the WSOP, Willems was a writer for UW-Green Bay's student-run newspaper The Fourth Estate, a publication he contributed to for two years.
In high school Willems was a three-time State qualifier in golf and he even attended the University of Wisconsin-Stout as a Golf Enterprise Management (GEM) major -- one of just a handful of universities in the country offering such a program. After deciding a GEM degree was too limiting, Willems transferred to UW-Green Bay where he would eventually graduate with a more versatile Communication degree.
Willems spent much of his childhood working at his family's restaurant, The Sister Bay Bowl, in Sister Bay, WI. He began dishwashing as a child and worked his way up the ranks before eventually helping out on a part-time basis as a bartender.
When not traveling the WSOP Circuit or in Las Vegas, Willems can be found enjoying one of the many state parks in his home state of Wisconsin, hiking, biking, boating or golfing. He also continues to help out the family at the restaurant.
Poker remains a hobby of Willems' and a way for him to stay in touch with his many high school friends who still play the game recreationally.
Willems is single and lives in Sister Bay, Wisconsin.
