Final day of the Bike Circuit series is full of milestone rings

Bell Gardens, Ca. (15 March 2017) - The final day of the WSOP Circuit series at the Bicycle Hotel and Casino wasn't a slow day. There were three rings left to be won and all three winners already had rings to their name.

The first ring of the day went to Mike Leah, who won his fifth career ring in the $1,125 no-limit hold'em bounty event. He bested a final table that featured two-time bracelet winner Steve Sung to win $12,450 and, including his own, 15 $500 bounties. His fifth ring comes on the three year anniversary of his first two rings, which he won in the same day at the Bike in 2014.

Dave Banerjee won the $365 no-limit hold'em event just a couple hours later to put a second Circuit ring in his trophy case. Banerjee came out on top of a field of 152 entries to win $12,320.

The final ring of the day brought Circuit history to the Bike. Valentin Vornicu won the final event of the series, a one-day, $365 no-limit hold'em turbo to tie Alex Masek and Maurice Hawkins atop the all-time ring list. This is Vornicu's ninth career ring, and fourth at the Bike. Vornicu won the one-day turbo event at this stop last year to win his eighth ring.

Vornicu's historic win puts a wrap on the WSOP Circuit stop at the Bicycle Casino, which is the last stop of the season on the west coast.

 Casino Championship Race

It seems like every stop at the Bicycle Hotel and Casino has a casino championship race that comes down to the wire. Last December, during the first stop here in Los Angeles, Jesse Yaginuma won the high roller on the final day of play to overtake Alex Massman for the title.

This time it was the trio of Danny Illingworth, Mike Leah, and Valentin Vornicu involved in the final day drama. Illingworth came into the day with the lead, but there were still three rings to be awarded. Mike Leah came into the final day with only 20 points compared to Illingworth's 62.5, but had the chip lead with five remaining in the $1,125 no-limit hold'em bounty event.

Leah went on to win that event to put pressure on back on Illingworth. Illingworth worked his way into the money of the $365 no-limit hold'em turbo event, the last event of the series, but needed to finish 11th to regain the lead and get another 10 points. Illingworth fell just shy of an 11th place finish, falling in 13th place and finishing 2.5 points behind Leah.

After Illingworth bowed out in 13th, there were still two players who could catch Leah. Sohale Khalili earned 37.5 points from his runner-up finish in the monster stack event and a second place or better finish in the turbo event would give him the title, while Valentin Vornicu had 25 points and a win would secure the crown for him. If Vornicu won and Khalili finished second, both would end with 75 points and Khalili would have the tie breaker based on the money won tiebreaker.

Khalili finished fifth, which knocked him out of contention for the title, meaning only a win from Vornicu would take the victory away from Leah. Vornicu went on to win the event, defeating Mark Hamilton heads-up and giving Vonricu the title of Casino Champion at the Bike for the second year in a row.
