Cherokee, NC (December 7, 2016) – Marshall White is the World Series of Poker’s most recent recipient of a Casino Champion title. He won the Casino Championship honors at last week’s Harah's Cherokee Circuit stop with a couple third-place finishes and one other cash in the 12-event series.
White did not claim the top spot in the Casino Champion race until just past the halfway point of the Harrah's Cherokee series. It was David Barber, ultimately finishing as the runner-up, who held the lead in the early stages of the series.
Barber bagged chips in Flight C of Event #1. While he was awaiting Day 2 of the tournament, Barber decided to enter Event #2: $365 No-Limit Hold'em Turbo Re-Entry. The fast-paced, one-day endeavor was a success for Barber, finishing in second place for $18,312 and 37.5 Casino Champion points. He then went on to continue his Event #1: $365 No-Limit Hold'em Re-Entry run and ended up with a fourth-place finish for $36,084 and another 27.5 points.
White also cashed in Event #2 with Barber, but finished in 39th for only 2.5 points. Ten more points were earned by White in Event #5: $580 No-Limit Hold'em (1 Re-Entry) when he took 13th place. Barber still sat atop the Harrah's Cherokee leader board with a total of 65 points, but White was just warming up.
Event #6: $365 No-Limit Hold'em (30 Minute Levels) was a one-day tournament that concluded around 5:00 am on November 30th. White was part of the wee hours final table where he took third place. His deep run granted him $15,003 and 30 more points toward the Casino Champion race. This was White's first third-place cash of the series.
Monster Stack tournaments have been historically profitable for White. He held claim to five Monster-Stack cashes worth about $175,000 combined, coming into the Harrah's Cherokee Circuit stop where he successfully added to the already impressive statistic. White recorded his second third-place finish of the series in Event #7: $365 No-Limit Hold'em Monster Stack, awarding him $25,606 and another 30 points. This brought White's points total to 72.5, surpassing Barber's mark and putting him on top of the Casino Champion leaderboard.
During White's path to the top, his dedicated girlfriend, Irene Carey, provided him with immeasurable support every step of the way. Carey, along with a group of close friends, filled up the rail for both of White's lengthy final table runs. The poker pro's skillful play and aid of his supporting cast propelled him to the Harrah's Cherokee Casino Championship.
White will be playing in the 2017 Global Casino Championship. The Global Casino Championship features a minimum $1 million prizepool and will award the winner a gold bracelet. All Casino Champions and Main Event winners of the season earn a free seat into the tournament. There are also 50 free seats for the players who earn the most post points over the entire 2016/17 Circuit season. Anyone winning a gold ring this season, but not earning a free seat, can buy-in to the Global Casino Championship for $10,000. All $10,000 of the buy-in will be added to the prizepool.
