Day 1a of Event #74: The Little One for One Drop Wraps; Aldridge Leads

Day 1a of Event #74: The Little One for One Drop - $1,000 +111 No-Limit Hold'em has ended. The remaining 117 players will return Friday at 2 p.m. in the Miranda room at the Rio and merge with the players from Day 1b and Day 1c. Day 2 play will go for 10.5 levels with 15-minute break after every two levels. Players will also enjoy a 60-minute dinner break at about 8:30 p.m.

Ken 'Teach' Aldridge of the United States ended Day 1a as the chip leader with 199,000, but as there are two more Day 1s so the could shift before Day 2. Close behind Aldridge are Lawrence Engerman of the United States with 183,400 and Mark Jun from the United States with 181,200.

Other notables returning to Day 2 include recent bracelet winner Tom Koral (22,200) Adam Owen (92,800), Joe Elpayaa (75,600), Ray Henson (58,500), and Brian Hastings (16,800).

Jason Mercier (91,000), David 'ODB' Baker (59,300), Thomas Taylor (57,100), and Mike Leah (14,300) bagged for Day 2, and all four players are also playing in the Main Event Day 2c on Wednesday. If everything goes right they will be multi-tabling the two events on Friday.

The event attracted 687 entries with two more Day 1s to go that will add to the prize pool. Day 1b starts at 3 p.m. on Wednesday and is a $1,000 buy-in for 5,000 chips. Players can elect to give a $111 donation to One Drop and receive an extra 5,000 chips on top of their starting stack.

Schumacher Ends the Night Right

Terry Schumacher was in the cutoff and raised to 2,500. the button called, as well as the small blind and big blind.

The flop was     and the small blind led for 5,000. The big blind folded and Schumacher raised to 12,000. The button folded and the small blind called.

The turn was the   and the small blind checked. Schumacher moved all in covering the small blind who tanked. After a couple of minutes a clock was called and the small blind put the rest of her chips in. Schumacher tabled    and the small blind showed   .

The river was the   and Schumacher goes into Day 2 in a much more comfortable position.

Owen Holds to Double Up

Adam Owen went heads up to a flop of    , and the big blind checked to Owen, who fired out 2,100. His opponent went for the check raise to 5,200, and Owen thought for about a minute before he moved all in.

His opponent went into the tank for a while, never looking too comfortable about the decision. He asked for a count, and it was 28,900 total. Eventually he called, and told Owen, "you're ahead," when he saw Owen's hand.

Aldridge and Jun Separating from the Pack

With 30 minutes left in play tonight, we have a few players who have stacks of over 100,000, but two players are starting to plow ahead of the group. Hustad Knocks out Legrand in a Cooler

Osvaldo Legrand got it all in pre-flop for his remaining stack of roughly 32,000 against Greg Hustad who had him well covered.

Xiu Mei was in the cutoff and raised to 2,000. A player in the small blind moved all in for 19,000 and Mei called for her remaining 16,500 and was at risk.

Elpayaa Nearing Six Figures

Joe Elpayaa and another player went heads up to a flop of    . Elpayaa fired out 2,300, and his opponent bumped it up to 7,000. Elpayaa thought it over for a few moments before calling, and the   hit the turn. Elpayaa checked this time, and his opponent made it 10,000 to go.

Elpayaa again thought for a few moments to make his decision, but this time he raised it up to 22,000. His opponent tanked for about a minute before folding, and the two players engaged in some small banter after the hand, each won saying they thought the other might be bluffing.

"I assure you I had you beat," Elpayaa said with a smile as he raked in the chips to push his stack to 95,000.

Yu Getting Short

Terry Schumacher raised it up to 1,600 from early position, and it folded around to Ben Yu, who called from the big blind. The flop came down    , and Yu check called a bet of 1,100 from Schumacher. The   hit the turn, and Yu tapped the felt again. Schumacher didn't slow down, firing 2,500, and Yu thought it over for a bit before tossing his cards in, dropping him below starting stack.
